Are Annoying Banner Ads Effective?

bannersEvery day we use the internet we are struck by some form of banner advertisement. Ranging from Insurance, to car companies, to lunch options; banner ads create a selling environment on any Web site. Personally, I think banner ads suck. I avoid them at all cost, and I think they are mostly a trap to force you to click. I can see how they would be appealing for the companies that use them. But, because I think they suck, I wanted to compare banners to other forms of media. Yet, why reinvent the wheel? In Defense of Banner AdsBen Kunz suggests that the click-through rate of a banner ad are only 0.07 percent.
