The recent major data breaches essentially have ensured the U.S. will move to an EMV-based system, thus joining the rest of the industrialized world, albeit a bit late. Who stands to gain? Primarily the legacy players, many of whom have been preoccupied lately fending off competition from emerging tech start-ups. Why bother anymore?
