New Security Group A Good Move, But Let’s Keep The Discussions Open

The formation last week by Visa and MasterCard of a cross-industry group to plan out strategy to improve the security of the nation’s payment system seemed well-advised. But a focus on EMV, and no mention of mobile-based alternatives, is a bit troubling. Ironically, broader use of tokenization and point-to-point encryption is part in the group’s goal, which really leads one to question: why push EMV at all?
